Masa de joc
Romanian card games, played online with friends
Macao, Șeptică, Tabinet, Trombon and Război, right in the browser: you open a table and send its address to a friend. Bots can hold the empty seats until someone sits down, and every game keeps its own leaderboard.

About the product
Masa de joc brings five Romanian card games online — Macao, Șeptică, Tabinet, Trombon and Război — played, in the footer's own words, "the way they are played at home, with the rules from here". Nothing is installed: you open a table, choose the game, the number of seats, the pace and whether the game counts towards the leaderboard, then send out the table's address. Anyone who has it can watch from the side — exactly what you would see standing next to a real table: who is sitting there and the cards on the table, never anyone's hand — and with an account they can take an empty seat.
The host does not have to wait for a full table: the game can start straight away with bots in the empty seats, and whoever arrives later takes a bot's place without interrupting the game. The game itself lives on the server, not in the browser: a move that breaks the rules is refused by the server whatever the screen shows, and each player receives a version of the game with everyone else's cards left out — "your opponents' hands never reach your browser, not even hidden". At a table with a clock, a player who does not move in time is removed from that game, and the others carry on.
Every game keeps its own leaderboard, rated Elo-style, because a Tabinet master has no reason to rank high at Război, "where luck counts for more". Rating only moves between people: the moment the first bot sits down, the table leaves the leaderboard for good. As for the rules, these games are played differently from one region to the next, so the site applies a single variant of each, with its rules "written exactly as the server applies them". Every rules page lists the common regional variants and says which are played at these tables and which are not.
StatusThe site is free and nothing is played for money: there are no subscriptions, stakes, bets, purchasable chips or cash prizes. Its terms say so plainly — "this is not a gambling site" — and the leaderboard rating "is a number, not a value".
What it does
A table is an address
Game, seats, pace and whether it is ranked are chosen when the table opens, and the invitation is the table's address. Anyone with it can watch from the side; with an account, they can sit down. Around each table there is a room holding the game log and the conversation of whoever is present.
Bots in the empty seats
The host can seat bots in free places, at two levels of play — gentle and normal — and every game has its own bot. Whoever arrives later takes a bot's seat without interrupting the game.
The cards stay on the server
Each player receives a version of the game without the others' hands, which never reach the browser, not even hidden. A move that breaks a rule is refused by the server, whatever the screen shows.
A leaderboard per game, between people only
Elo-style rating per game, with each player's best rating kept. The first bot at a table takes it off the leaderboard for good, and a player removed for running out of time ranks behind everyone still at the table — otherwise, whoever saw a loss coming would just close the tab.
House rules, one variant each
Every game has a rules page that can also be opened from the table, without leaving the game. Common regional variants are listed, each marked as played or not played at these tables.
An account with the minimum of data
An account takes a player name, a confirmed email address and a password — no real name, phone number or payment details. The catalogue, the rules and the leaderboards can be read without one, and the account can be deleted at any time, straight from the profile.
